Attached is legislative language being considered by Senator Tom Carper (D-DE), the "Clean Air Act Amendments of 2010", with co-sponsors Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Susan Collins (R-ME) that addresses SO2, NOx, and mercury emissions from fossil-fuel power plants.
Earlier this year Sen. Carper, chairman of the Senate Clean Air and Nuclear Safety subcommittee, called for Congress to pass multi-pollutant legislation after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed a stricter ozone standard to better protect the health of all Americans. This decision comes on the heels of an earlier proposal to tighten the national sulfur dioxide standard.
